Somewhat entertaining but a significant step down from the first. The heroes are still fun, the expanded lore is interesting, and the movie got a few laughs out of me. Villains have their moments, but Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren are mostly on autopilot. Worst offense is that a lot of the strong character work from the first has been replaced by mostly stock storytelling. I'm generally glad I saw it, but the film was a slight disappointment.EvilPrime98

Perhaps the most haphazardly put together superhero film that I've seen. The final battle seems to stretch on forever and literally takes breaks in the action for side quests, something I've never encountered before. It's not just the battles though, the whole thing feels so long and needlessly drawn out because none of it flows together. It's almost the DCEU's attempt to just go full tilt with the gags and looneyness but you have to actually know what you're doing to pull that off. The trio of women villains was painfully miscast and quite boring overall, Zegler's dialog in particular was incredibly poor. The Skittles part was unbelievably cringe.Siskoid
The first Shazam film set us up for Mr. Mind, but the sequel didn't have the guts to follow through and instead we get Greek mythology thrown into a blender to the point where it's just using familiar-sounding words, but has no idea what their actual context is. But if I found the movie tedious, it's not so much that as the ill-judged comedy that too often falls flat or at its worse, comes across as obnoxious. The joke about these heroes not having a name because the cowards at the top don't want to use Captain Marvel gets past the Rule of Three and make you feel like this franchise is essentially unworkable for trademark reasons. We also get very CG monsters, an in-story Skittles commercial, a teenage goddess out of some WB show, Mary Marvel with a hangover, cop-outs aplenty. motivations lacking, tonally-unacceptable deaths and yet destruction porn relating to somehow empty buildings (the DCAU has yet to shrug off its Man of Steel problem), execrable slow motion (the DCAU can't help itself), and it's generally hard to keep up the urgency of the situations when characters stop in the middle of tense combat moments to make speeches or tell jokes. Shazam! Fury of the Gods looks like it's trying hard to appeal to MCU fans, but only really manages to be annoying.samoan
This movie was really disappointing and just bad. The acting wasn't great, and the villains were boring characters that really didn't feel intimidating, even though I love the actresses. The story was meh, and there were lots of plot holes. The first one was so good too, which makes this sequel even more disappointing. What really bugs me though is the way that Zachary Levi has gone to blame everyone from Dwayne Johnson to the fans for it failing rather than owning up to the fact that it was just a bad movie.ucuruju
It sometimes felt like people in the same scene were tonally in completely different movies. One is quipping while the other is screaming and crying. It's not so much the script but the acting-- they don't seem to be playing off each other. Which is probably due to the fact that these actors weren't in the same room half the time. Levy is still great but some scenes with the kid version of Adam Brody are straight up embarrassing to watch. The first one is a much stronger film. It feels like the character and the humor were a perfect fit for an origin story. This second adventure hasn't been thought out as well and the emotional beats are mostly glossed over and unexplored. The movie is busy with its lore and action sequences. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are horrendous. Rachel Zegler is better but she's forced to romance kid Adam Brody and they have a complete lack of chemistry.samoan
Loved the first movie, but this one is far too slow and not a very interesting plot. Lots of the jokes fall flat and the villains aren't very scary. There were some funny moments and some solid casting. But sadly it is more of a dud in line with a lot of recent DC releases. Really hoped it was going to be a lot better. So far the only DCU movies outside of Batman movies I have found to be good were The Suicide Squad (James Gunn one), Shazam, Black Adam, and Harley Quinn's Birds of Prey.diirtyharry67
