I con only second the previous comments. Go watch this movie. Finally a new silent movie. And it's great.

Captivating. Stunning. Watch this as soon as it hit theaters, you won't be disappointed.

I liked this. Never watched silent film before but I'm not sure this qualifies as one ... but either way, it doesn't matter what genre this is. It's a special little thing. Liked it a lot. Likable actors.

So far, this is the worst Academy Award-winning film that I've ever seen. The plot is predictable and boring and the script is very silly.

It's well done but the script is silly, predictable and totally false cuz a lot of great silents still shooting after 1927. I have seen 12 silent films and I liked them more than The Artist

A lot felt forced but it got better towards the end. Not a bad movie but not great either.

cliché and terrible??
People who say such a thing have no awareness and knowledge of Classic Movies. beside it's great directing and filmography it had one other word: The movie in every genre can be good and Classic movies are still alive. we can have fun with them, too.

I really hope people calling this movie "perfection" and saying the oscar was "well deserved" are trolling.

Because if they aren't, it's definitely time to use that healthcare plan: go back to the maternity ward and ask for new eyes. And possibly a functioning brain, too.

My 1st and only B&W silent film by far. Film yg luar biasa detail & total dalam usaha membawa kembali industri perfilman tahun 20an ke depan mata penonton yg manja visual effect. Cerita yg simple justru mendukung usaha tsb. Dujardin, Bejo & semua pemain jadulnya pas!

[!!!!!!!!!!!] Wow.
This film should be watched in the cinema, definitely. Before watching it I had a feeling, since “The Artist” is without sound (of course, except music), the view is truly important. And yea, it is.
I was fascinated by acting – that was brilliant.
Bérénice Bejo – beautiful, fresh, very feminine, very bright.
Jean Dujardin, well, best compliments for him. He acted so well, so expressively! I liked him before, but after “The Artist” I have to admit, that yea, Jean D. is adorable – talented, French-delicate, masculine.
I watched every minute of the film so carefully with such a great interest. Music – ohh, it was harmonious ! Fashion – nice details from interwar period (elegant waistcoats, cigar in man’s mouth, stylish costumes, tiny dresses, subtle hairstyle, nice hats, old-time cars and many more..)
And romanticism – so natural, so vivid. The sound isn’t necessary here – emotions are reflected very carefully and you’re involved indeed!
It’d be trivial to say, that “The Artist” is an exceptional one, but... it really is.
Subjectively: the best 2011 film, (and will remain within for a long time).

It gets less and less obnoxious and more and more enjoyable as it progresses. Loved the ending.

All the awards season hype may end up disappointing some viewers, as the story is a bit simplistic but it is beautifully done with bags of energy and charm; both the leads (and the dog) are delightful. Unlike Scorsese's Hugo it manages to celebrate the silent era by demonstrating what is so wonderful about it rather than being an inappropriately hi-tech and ultimately dry history lesson. Dujardin and Bejo are both in the first (hilarious) OSS-117 movie, a 1960s spy spoof, from the same director. Very different but well worth seeing too.
