It takes place in 2003 and was made in 2010. That's technically a historical film.

I think the guys at ICM are working on making a separate favorite list for tv stuff.

@ Gus_Hammond: How would you know? You've seen 9% of Rosenbaum's list. Do you think that's really enough to judge his selection? Jonathan Rosenbaum is a world renowned film critic with years of experience.

Jean-Luc Godard said of him: "I think there is a very good film critic in the United States today, a successor of James Agee, and that is Jonathan Rosenbaum. He's one of the best; we don't have writers like him in France today. He's like André Bazin."

It's a good guide for the bigger movies, but not the smaller ones that take a while to get the 5000 votes it takes to be here.

A lot of glass is half empty kinda guys on this site!

I agree that's it's non too thrilling to see video games and "Survivor" episodes on the site, but how great is it to be able to check any movie!

Hope it's a new list, maybe one from the ones that got voted on the facebook group. (Here's hoping.)

Yeah, when I was in Germany last, I was schocked at the price of some of the DVD's. I bought a Karl Valentin box set for 60 euros or so.

I hate that I can't delete my comments: "I had understand"

@Paper_Okami: I had understand an opinion, which is why you won't see me post that on Rosenbaum or Ebert's wall. This is is not a personal list.

@Sviggolo: I agree with you 150%.

I watched this because I heard it revolved around Christmas, but it was a really tired horror film with every cliché in the book and horrible dialogue.
Even Ray Wise's presence didn't help its case.

I don't always agree with Ebert, but to say that he is film illiterate is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

By definition being film-literate is based on your knowledge of film, I would say Ebert more than qualifies on that level. Whether he has taste or not, is another matter altogether.

The fact that the new edition got rid of Fanny and Alexander and included Paranormal Activity makes me question the sanity and taste of the people in charge.

I have to agree Timec, Val Lewton productions had something really special about them. The mood in Cat People and The Seventh Victim is amazing.

It was a knock against Duras and Makavejev, not you. And I was talking about suffering in regards to film watching, not "real life" suffering.

@Jason Ferriss: Then don't ever watch Margueritte Duras and Dusan Makavejev movies. You might actually learn what suffering really is.
