what a mediocre film. it's hard to think that the same director gave us the cinematic masterpieces that were the lotr trilogy.
unnecessary scenes, irritating characters, tropes galore and a anticlimatic moments at every turn, this movie left a bad taste in my mouth. the trilogy should have been a duology and should have imitated the brevity of the book. despite not having actually read the hobbit book, it was painfully obvious that every single moment in this film was fake due to the utter drop in the quality of plot and dialogue. and that hammy faux-emotional ending was the pits.
though the cast is just as adorable as the first, with better animations, great voice acting and a decent story, the plot didnt feel very fluid and the ham-handed family values and a generic villain brought it down. it's an excellent kid's movie but didn't pull me as much as the first one. it's still pretty brutal at times though.
excepting a REALLY generic villain and a run-of-the-mill plotline, this movie was REALLY entertaining.
the characters, the music and the banter are what make this movie quite a good watch but it has very little going for it other than it is hilarious. a good addition to the marvel franchise though leaves you hanging for more.
DON'T WAIT FOR THE END-CREDITS SEQUENCE.
just watch it on youtube or something if you realy want to.
8/10
funny and entertaining but don't expect more.
seriously good. you could feel a giant twist towards the end coming a mile away but still felt pretty shocking as to just how deep the twists went. pretty original and quite well shot with some great moments. most of the performances were good in this varied cast.
8.5/10
highly recommended post apocalyptic philosophical piece. better than elysium at any rate
really good movie. entertaining, had a very interesting premise, good aliens and cgi. characters weren't very great though with you only really caring for the two lead protagonists. also the ending let me down a little
with it's hollywood cliched finish. they should have finished it once they defeated the omega with everyone permanently dead. that would have made for the really gritty and dark ending that this movie deserved
. but really action packed with some great moments.
8/10
they really should have named it "all you need is kill" from the novel it is based on. edge of tomorrow? too hollywood and cliched. all you need is kill. that sounds badass and awesome.
this movie wasn't bad. that in itself is an achievement.
though a tad too much was given over to the human characters, the monsters were pretty neat and had real presence, raising my hairs everytime they were shown. this movie did justice to the monsters and i think that is it's crowning achievement.
acting was ok. i would have expected more but i guess for a disaster movie, it suffices.
the directing and cinematography were FANTASTIC. a lesser director would certainly have mucked a lot of the shots with shaky cam but here the camera is appropriately slow and sweeping to accommodate these monstrosities. angles from the ground and from a distance really make you feel small and insignificant as these leviathans battle out in a frenzy.
enjoyed it but it really isn't for everyone. people may feel dissatisfied by how little godzilla there is
oscar nominations and golden globes? the film did very little do deserve all this hype except come out at the right time.
a messy plot, awfully unlikeable characters, some disappointing performances, thoroughly average technically. an average film for whiling away your time.
charming, excellently directed, hilarious and quite real. made me really uncomfortable at times and it definitely wasn't because of the porn. a relatable character who comes out of his douchiness to find happiness.
good film but not that great. definitely the best in marvel phase 2 so far though.
good plot with good intrigue and a decent twist in the middle. action was quite good though the shaky cam was a bit unwarranted. i wish action directors filmed action better with long cuts. the edits are too close these days. acting was solid all around.
but the 3d is entirely wasted. this was converted so save some money and go 2d instead
8/10
if you're not a cinecritic, you'll enjoy the hell out of this. personally it was not as great as i had hoped but still had a good time
the first one was hit and miss. this one overcomes all that and gives us an excellent show.
the scared method which the first movie was filmed to hide all the violence to make it more kid friendly have been almost done away with. the violence is now almost graphic and sometimes even uncomfortable to watch. the plot has a steady buildup with a good but not overt emphasis on the brewing of the rebellion in the other districts. despite that the first half of the movie is devoted to the backstory, it doesn't feel too long and is a great character building exercise.
when the hunger games truly begin, the pace changes almost completely but manages to make this switch work because though it is jarring, this is how the character too feels. tension mounts to a climax setting it up for the sequel which promises more intrigue and secrets than is seen on the surface.
technically the movie is sound. no more shaky hide-the-violence cam, good cinematography, good score and quite good acting on everyone's part though aquaboy (i dont know the spear/trident kid's name) felt a little hammy
enjoyable popcorn flick as most marvel movies are. decent story that somewhat works with plot holes excusable due to the random rules that marvel comics themselves seem to barely follow. technically quite sound with good cinematography, editing etc etc. passable acting. some really bad jokes and horrible comic timing marred some of it though. wish they hadn't tried so hard to be funny because a lot of it was pretty good.
7.5/10 would recommend for anyone looking for an enjoyable 2 hours
i've not read the books yet so i cannot compare but i wouldn't even if i had.
as everyone has already said, the pacing felt REALLY rushed. many movies have the demerit of being too long. this unfortunately was way too short. whatever the reasons, the characters couldn't be fleshed completely, the plot couldn't be explored completely and the pace was slightly jarring. as it ended, it felt like it had only just begun.
that said, this is quite an entertaining movie and deserves a watch. technically the movie is great. good cinematography, decent acting with harrison ford being the most memorable and a good enough soundtrack to supplement the scenes. the editing was as good as can be for a movie that was all too short.
7/10
not a must-watch scifi movie by any stretch but still recommended
this was an amazing, hilarious joyride throughout and though lack a mite of the humour the last ones had, on it's own it's a great ride. the best comedy of 2013 i think.
a very good plot, excellent acting all around, great directing, amazing soundtrack all mesh to make a masterpiece.
social issues and real-world problems give way to awesome action scenes and brilliant special effects.
this is an excellent action movie with some great ideas but marred by the fact that social issues were shoehorned in and don't play as big a role as explosions and guns do.
plot is cliched and predictable so don't expect district 9 levels of good. technically the film is sound with great directing and acting and all that jazz.
i'm not going to be the typical moron who wants to compare movies with source material. that never ends well. what i will do is review from a completely unbiased viewpoint as a person who watched this movie and pretends to be blind to the fact that he read the books a few weeks ago.
this movie SUCKS.
conveniences abound just to get some tension into this moron's story. characters go in and out with absolutely no plot significance whatsoever. forced family ties through cliched phone calls. moronic characters. selfless hero tropes. idiotic decisions. basically pour into a pot every element every big-budget a-list-actor-starring "horror" movie trope you can ever think of and dump it here. the plot stinks to high heaven and makes absolutely no sense. no not even scientifically.
the acting is decent. brad pitt does his part well enough for whatever it's supposed to be. pained, strained, roughed up, toughened up, brave, craven, all with decent enough chops. i wouldn't have expected less. other characters are all either throwaway or barely have enough screentime to compete so...
effects are decent enough. if it wasn't, what kind of AAA movie would it be.
cinematography does ok but long periods of ridiculous shaky cam pulls a lot away from the scenes of zombies chasing and eating giving barely any emotional depth to the fact that people are dying.
This movie was incredibly cheesy but quite a lot of fun. Though the climax was extremely forced and quite indigestible, it didn't make the rest of the illusion, the style and the magic go away. Cinematography could have been much better with more stable shots and the editing could have been little less flashy. The acting was decent and they did it well though I've seen better performances from the actors.
In fine, if you'e looking for some mindless entertainment, this might not be the worst idea.
cliched and concentrating WAY too much on false facts, unnecessary details and other crap with those ridiculous song-&-dance numbers, it's still a solid movie which i would have appreciated far more had it not been branded as based on a true story because it most certainly isn't.
7/10
BTW, IMDB ratings during the first month or even first year are all skewed because of the massive number of indian fanboys and "reviewers" who would give this exorbitant scores. with time this should settle on a better score.
