Go scour the Interwebz for a decent anime list and propose it to the guys (if you include links and everything it'll be easier for them to implement). That's the best way of going about it I can think of.
I honestly thought Cabiria was boring. Grand sets, yes (Moloch was especially impressive), but everything else was just corny and wooden (plot, acting, cinematography).
@olem92: For the Top 250 a "Weighted Rating" is used. If you go to the bottom of the IMDb Top 250 page you'll find the formula used. I entered the numbers and the "Weighted Rating" of Brief Encounter came out as 7.9 - which puts it outside the Top 250.
I think the first big chunk of the list is more or less random, and then they've added new titles as they appeared, which means more or less in spine number order. More or less.
The End of Evangelion was given a theatrical release, so it's as entitled to be here as any of the other movies.
Having seen both the series and the movie, I can't argue against its inclusion on this list. It is outstanding.
However, I am including it in this book not jut because absence has stimulated thoughts about the picture, but because the resourceful Rick Schmidling has made a reconstructed version based on stills from the production as well as titles from the original (he did the same with Greed).
Based on this excerpt from the source book, I guess David Thomson actually means the 2002 reconstruction.
@insomniaticnimrod:
I know, it's outrageous isn't it? How dare people make movies that aren't in English? And don't try to tell me they might be any good. If it isn't in English it isn't worth seeing, period.
And anything older than me has got to be a complete waste of time, right? I mean, nothing interesting ever happened before I came along. My mom said so herself. Don't believe a word about any wars or revolutions or anything like that. If it didn't happen while I lived, it didn't happen.
Wrong version of Que Viva Mexico!, should be the 1979 release (I've been taught here that the 1932 imdb link is a reference to the unreleased film footage kept in NY MOMA).
Except... You've included Ernst Lubitsch's movie The Patriot (1928) among the Oscar Best Picture Nominees. This movie is LOST (no copies are known to exist). It's the only Oscar nominated movie to have been lost and it was the last silent movie to be nominated for an Oscar. Including it is technically correct (it was nominated), but it means that noone can get platinum (without "cheating").

Isn't that what the "personal lists" tab is going to be like in the fabled iCM 2.0?

Congrats on the 40k+ users!Unlike SilentWarrior I don't think there's any signal-to-noise ratio problem, since inactive members don't make any noise.
