A very strange and hard to quantify mix of stupidity as farce and unnervingly casual violence

Nice social message, Bergman kills it- as you'd expect, and Giulietta Masina's little role is a treat. My enjoyment was hindered by that irritating trope of early 50's cinema: a completely illogical justice system that serves solely to be antagonistic. Bugged the hell out of me.

If you love the ending of this movie, in all of it's absurd glory, do yourself a favor and go see Holy Motors

I fail to see the "Spiritual Significance" of this film, all I got out of it was that French townies are utter assholes. Except for Jean.

last two guys: are you having a bad grammar off? It is 'then', not 'than' and you could NOT care less. I realize this is a movie board, but if you are going to shit-talk a good movie, do it in a proper way.

because it is unbelievably self-involved, overlong, and lacking a sympathetic character. And the writing is TERRIBLE
