According to IMDB the budget of this movie was $ 37, 000 000. I guess cocain was expensive even back in the 80's and there's no way this could have been made without it.
A truly beautiful masterpiece. The visuals gives the film a lot of atmosphere, but it is the humane part of the story, brought to life by the actors, that makes this film both moving and scary. Loved every second of it!
Why anyone would put this dreadful movie on a list, is beyond my comprehension. I don't mind movies that makes you sick, or movies that want's to provoke, but this is just cheap, racist trash.
I can assure everyone that animals were harmed during this production, and the scenes with the tortured animals doesn't really add much to the story.
I'm trying to look beyond the cheap shocks, but can't find any substance to this movie anywhere.
A boring movie with a lot of bad, over-the-top acting. Hooper is using a lot of cheap gimmicks to scare his audience, and the story is all over the place. I can't believe that he directed Poltergeist.
Can a dog be scary?.. Yes - in real life, if it's attacking you. But on film?.. No. Cujo is a very normal St. Bernard and the filmmakers has only covered him with dirt to make him look more fierce. The actors does their best to make us (the viewer) believe in this movie, but that doesn't help very much. Even the kid, who looks genuinely traumatized at one point in the movie, doesn't make the dog look scary. I fell a sleep three times during this movie. I only woke up when the sound was so loud that I had no choice but to wake up. Then I fell asleep again. So, I'm not gonna say much about how well it ended, or how good a build-up of the story there were, because I don't know, and frankly I don't even care. One of the worst movies on this list? No - there are worse, but at least some of them are entertaining. "Cujo" is just boring, unfunny and unscary.
In my opinion, "The Dark Night" is the most boring and overrated Batman movie in decades. Ledger's joker isn't that good. He isn't scary nor funny. At least you could laugh at Nicholson's Joker in "Batman". Nolan doesn't care much at all about his characters, the story is a big mess and why is it never ending? There is no humor. Come on! It's a Batman movie! Why so serious?
The first half of the film contains a lot scenes with characters sitting around in chairs while watching screens with images of stars. In the last part it gets a bit more interesting though, with the existential bits at the end. The movie would probably look good in 1979, but it hasn't aged as well as for instance "2001: a Space Odyssey" or, for that matter, "Star Wars".
I don't think this is a very scary nor original slasher movie, but it's not the worst in it's genre. A bit boring though. It has some nice gory effects, but the acting, well, so called acting, is very very poor.
Superficial werewolf entertainment. Nothing special, but a well made genre pic. The transformation effects aren't quite up there with An American Werewolf in London, but kind of works during most of the movie. The townspeople are quite stereotypical. Too much to ask of Stephen King to write three dimensional characters, I guess.
What did Vanilla Sky miss? I remember that I hated it. Even though the storyline is almost identical, I think I felt more for the main character here than in Vanilla Sky. Abre los ojos is a much better movie, but not perfect though. I think the explanation in the end ruins the mystery of it all, and leaves very little for the viewers own imagination.
An interesting and solid performance by Sir Anthony Hopkins, and he is far better than Mel Gibson. The rest of the cast are also good, but I think some characters, which I would have liked to see more of, doesn't quite get enough room, like the Daniel Day-Lewis character, for instance.
There is also a less melodramatic ending than in the version with Brando, which I think is for the best.
They get the neverending part alright, but where's the story? And what's with all the pop cultural references in Fantasia? I thought the fantasians didn't know much about the real, outside world. But there is a weird Born to be Wild sequence and an Arnold Schwarzenegger joke. It is sad, but this is nothing like the other movies, and they were also very loose adaptations of the Michael Ende novel.
This is a movie that should have been much better given it's source material. It's not bad, but Diane Keaton is miscast. I simply can't take her overacted, melodramatic performance. Kinski is good, though.
I liked this movie despite it's very simple take on life. It's morals are a bit too american for my taste, but many individual scenes are very well communicated.
