I went into this hoping for a kickass martial arts flick. What I got, against all odds, was a legitimately fascinating piece of outsider art - I'm not sure whether it's good or bad, but as an object there's very little else like it.
Not only is this better than you could reasonably expect of a direct-to-video B-movie, it's one of the best American action movies of the 90s. Alternates between laugh-out-loud funny comedy from Kareem Hardison and jaw-dropping fight scenes from Marc Dacascos. Seriously, check this out, you won't be disappointed.
It starts out almost unbearably lethargic and takes the longest possible route to get to the action, but when it gets there, it kicks ass. The whole final shootout is one giant visual throwback to Hard Boiled, which is only ever a good thing.
