The loveless script our rage ignites
Producer's greed with no foresight
Compassion lacks, so fear this blight
Let's hope in the future they will get it right.
We need more studios and producers will to take more risks with superhero movies. There need to be more comic adaptations that are dramas first, action second.
The concept of Parallax is too much for viewers who are not DC literate, and the portrayal in the film only aggravates those who are.
While Sarsgaard did his best with Hammond, Hector is not a wise choice for a villain on screen. There were times where he was genuinely repugnant (like smelling Carol's hair) but more often than not he came off as goofy. Telepathy works much better on paper.
They should have scrapped these two from the beginning.
What they should have stuck with was the relationship between Hal Jordan and Thaal Sinsetro instead of wasting screen time on him creating a yellow power ring... he never uses. This is purely to set up a sequel... which will never be made.
The template for the script should not have been another superhero origins story but that of a cop movie in the vein of Training Day. Jordan the idealistic rookie and Sinestro the hardened, cynical veteran. Mark Strong of Earth would have had the power to instil great fear. (On a side note, I wish there was a 70's or 80's Green Lantern film with Sinestro played by Charles Bronson. He already had the sleazy mo and everything.)
If you've read the works of Geoff Johns you'll understand the disappointment towards this film and the wasted potential the Green Lantern universe has to offer. I don't think I'll ever get to to see Slushh, Larfleeze or Dex-Starr on screen.
Didn't take much to entertain people back in 1929.
If it weren't for Laurel and Hardy this would have been a mind numbing 2 hours. I don't know why but as obvious as it was there is still something riotously funny about a fat man slipping on a banana and face planting into a cake.
Arnie is famous for bad one-liners but this is the worst. Any social commentary is undermined by the worst puns (in the loosest possible meaning) ever.
Apparently when the masks are removed they become inactive but the bodies can still be possessed to make the masks in the first place?!
They also manipulated me into picking up a Bible to see what Genesis 4:11 was. I assumed what the reference would be to anyway but not cool all the same.
I have to say I like this one quite a bit. I called the end right from the start but at least it attempts a twist. Kersey may be untouchable but that doesn't mean he has nothing to lose.
Not a bad premise but all the noir elements feel cliche rather than organic, as if the film was a clumsy homage to noir rather than a genuine film of that era.
Many noirs were just B films of the time so in that aspect it succeeds as cheap escapism but with the right director this could have been a real gem.
Before this film was made, if you had told me Andrew Dice Clay would be in a Woody Allen movie I would have laughed in your face. Stranger things have happened I suppose.
The overall message does seem to be "I told you so" regarding mentally ill criminals but the film itself is very engaging.
Marshall Thompson is great in this, especially when he's mesmerised by the air conditioning vent, mimicking it by blowing softly. Amusing at first but also eerily disturbing.
That scene where he jumps the wall on the bike, his face looks pretty good considering he slammed it into the handlebars. Oh, and what's with the ninja laser beam?
Why was the old Martial Arts list discarded? They've had no problem keeping redundant lists before and there were at least 10 titles on it that are not on this one. 300 being on there caused a lot of debate but it was still a decent list.
While let down by the third act it's an overall entertaining film. The fight scenes are hypnotising, the 'audition' scene especially had me hooked.
A promising start for Keanu as a director. I think he should have focused on being behind the camera first time around though. There is room for improvement but I will be keeping an eye on any future projects.

I thought that fight scene would never end. While it starts off slow, once it picks up the pace it never lets up. John Carpenter is just so much fun.
Oh, are the scanners 'they' have at the end an homage to Ghostbusters or just recycled props?
