@goellnerd, while you're not wrong about the abrupt nature of the ending, I would say that that is a strength, because that's just how online microcelebrity works: think about the last time you heard about any person who became famous because of some meme. They're famous one day, completely forgotten about another day and there's basically no discernible moment between the two.
@fogver I'm pretty sure they added a password after the nomination. So many of the shorts nominees have links to videos that have since gone private, because apparently having your work seen is a negative in such situations.
@K. Look, I don't want to start a fight, I'm sure you're a perfectly decent person, but Jesus Christ, am I sick and tired of the "social media is the reason people don't like what I like" argument! For someone who is espousing a "don't be closed-minded" position, this suggestion that difference of opinions comes from the latest (but not quite the latest) new thing reeks of old man yells at cloud sensibilities. It was dumb when Ridley Scott used it to explain why his movie bombed and it's dumb now.
As far as I can tell, since this movie isn't complete, that means that it doesn't exist, and if it doesn't exist, it cannot be seen. So, if a non-existent movie can't be seen in the same way an existent movie can be seen, then we have all seen this movie. Yeah, there's no real logic to it, but neither is there any logic to this incomplete work being considered one of the greatest films of all time!
Can someone explain to me how this film is only on one list and that list is TSPDT? Like, isn't the whole point of this list that it takes other lists into account?
People complaining about Indian mafia are so annoying! There are a lot of Indian people out there: there is no concentrated effort. If you want something real to complain about, how about that talentless hack Chris Nolan having eight movies in the top 150? That's way more concentrated, since everything makes the list within a week of release.
Everyone here is complaining about people checking off lost films, totally ignoring the fact that a bunch of critics in the 1970s picked four films that they have never seen as some of the best films of their kind ever. Don't be mad at the people here: be mad at them!
I really don't think that this film wants to change that old woman's mind. Notice that the only person on the streetcar who explicitly agrees with her is another old man. The adults on the streetcar ignore the situation, but know that it is wrong. The freaks (immigrants, punks, outcasts) realize that it is wrong and speak up but no one listens to them (the boy who yells at the old woman isn't even subtitled) and the only person who recognizes the situation is wrong and looks directly at it is a small child. The whole point here seems to be "let the past die and make sure that the future knows what's right". The old woman getting her comeuppance isn't the point at all; it's just a cherry on top!
While this is still (probably) an obscure film, Nick MacDonald's Palestine has an imdb page. I have just added it to the database; can someone add it to the list?
Obviously, I'm not going to change any minds nor do I plan to, but anyone who didn't like this film because it was "dumb" obviously does not understand camp!
@EssexMutant: No, no one has. Nor has anyone seen Werner Herzog's Game in the Sand (16 checks), Lee Savage's Mickey Mouse in Vietnam (11 checks) or Jerry Lewis' The Day the Clown Cried (2 checks). I really don't understand why anyone would do that. What does it accomplish?
I always find it funny when someone says "all independent films are shit" or worse "all foreign films are shit". I never considered that there would be someone who would accuse all short films of being shit. Of course, it brings me solace knowing that this person's best chance of being heard is youtube!
