Sounds good, I'll put some $$$ in my PayPal soon so I can donate.
I have some functionality suggestions to consider though (most of them gleaned from the rateyourmusic interface):
*an option to show friends publicly
*the ability to show who all people who checked, favorited, and disliked a film
*ability to add movies to "collection" (or films owned... rateyourmusic has specific tabs for each format)
*comments section on a user's page
*more social features, perhaps even a forum
I think checking movies should always be free. If not, this could mean the downfall of the website. Try to think of new features that will only be available for users who pay.
How about this function: Users can pay a certain amount to make their list official. Official checks and awards, etc. Perhaps a higher amount to get a customized award.
This would be a great to get dough. In fact I think users would be perfectly happy to pay 10-25 dollars, perhaps even more for this function.
You can also implement a way for basic users to buy certain features.
In my view, the best way forward for iCM 2.0 would be to offer exciting NEW features - such as the ability to add one's own personal lists - and not remove/severly limit existing features such as imposing a monthly cap on checking. The latter spells harakiri for this site.
In my opinion, non-paying users should have all the uses that they currently have. To my mind, the obvious perk to offer premium users and not non-paying users is the ability to create new lists. That would keep newbies coming and allow them to get hooked, but it would still offer a real incentive to new and old users to get a premium account.
While I'd have no problem buying an android/ipod/ipad app, I'm probably not going to pay yearly just to keep an unlimited number of checks, which is one of the main reasons I use the site.
Of course, if you keep unlimited for everyone, there's nothing saying I won't start paying for the extras when I see them in action everytime I visit the site. At least doing it that way you'll keep your current customers that may make the switch after seeing the new features rather than never having that chance when they first visit the site and see they can only check a limited number of movies, so they immediately leave.
I'm hoping you'll reverse the choice of a limited number of checks within the next week, otherwise it'll seem rather pointless to keep using the site since I'm watching certain things for certain lists.
Since you're looking for more features, here's another idea:
Create some pre-defined list categories (e.g. funniest movies or best music), and allow anyone to create lists in those categories. For each category, have a list of the most-listed movies, and another list based on ratio (# of funniest / # of checks).
There are other websites with similar features, but they don't use ratios, so the ratio idea would be unique to iCM.
The second this site starts limiting checks will be the last day I visit it.
If you're looking for actually legitimate features, maybe add something to do with television shows. Since you're able to check individual shows, maybe with an upgraded (paid) account, you're able to differentiate checks between movies and shows, and get separate awards for watching television shows based on some list. At least that's an added feature, and not some totalitarian bullcrap that you're positing.
I think if you impose check limits you will also lose money from users visiting the site frequently. If I reach a point that I am at some type of check limit, I won't return to the site at all until I am able to check movies again. Checking movies and seeing my progress on certain lists I want to complete is the primary reason I come to the site multiple times a week which gives you money if you have advertisements for every hit the site receives. I really enjoy the site as it is currently, but if I am not able to check films for free then I will delete my account or just never come back. I can handle a slow server or bugs on the site occasionally since it is a free website, checking movies is the whole purpose of the site and should not be altered.
Just writing to reiterate what others are saying about the notion of free accounts being unable to check as many movies as they like. I have seen a lot of movies, so my use of the site would no doubt be greatly impacted by any such restrictions. I've been an active (and, I think, helpful) member for a while, and I'd hate to be forced to abandon the site just because features I once had access to for free suddenly became "Premium-Only." It makes sense to add cool extra stuff for paid accounts, but to cut into what many users have gotten used to having for free seems like a very bad idea, for everyone involved. I hope you rethink this before iCM 2.0 goes live.
"People are going to be way more likely to pay for this service if they start out using it for free, and get addicted to it."
Totally agree. The only reason I'm donating today, is because I already love what I have and want more. I'm not paying to keep what I already have, that seems absolutely unfair.
Have to agree about keeping unlimited checks for free users though. Pro users should be paying for extra features, not the current functionality, which should continue to exist for everyone. I probably would've been put off joining the site if there were a limited number of checks, even if I was a casual movie watcher.

The prize to make a personal list official could also depend on how long it is. Perhaps 1 dollar more per 50th entry. The prize could also be higher for lists created by the users than lists created by movie sites, critics, magazines, etc.
The prize could perhaps also be lower for Pro users than for Premium Basic users, warranting the higher prize.
