It’s great. And I was trying to not get invested. (And I knew everything that was going to happen!) They get unprecedented access and you get to see sides from players that I’ve previously never heard a word from; e.g. Modric.
MrDoog has it spot on. One of, if not the most sophisticated Statham movie (using the term within that very specific context). It's definitely worth two of what I like to call brain-dying hours.
If this movie was a dinner, it'd be the trifle Rachel made in Friends. I.e. you'd have to be a pretty die hard fan of cream, jam and mince all mixed together, and still you'd be hoping for something else.
I knew next to nothing about Queen or Freddy M. and reading the comments apparently there's a lot left to be desired. However, for me, this was fantastic. I spent most of the film with either a lump in my throat and drying tears off my face or a general sense of glee.
Sure, the reasons behind said emotions are rather clicheed, but in all honesty, that's why I watch films; emotions. Many of which can be felt through acts I've seen before; misunderstood person learning about oneself, the coming of age, bickering within family etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and will now try to find the Live Aid performance.
I enjoyed it immensely. Hanks does a great job of portraying the 'god fearing American battleship captain rookie extraordinaire'. As palefire writes, the language and script is excellent - and I felt the tension throughout the whole film.
So, so good. It's like there's a simmering of emotions, but no boil. Or perhaps a constant boil. Gorgeous and horrible. Had me at the edge of my seat until the end.
It's exactly what you think it is. I call them brain-dying films, i.e. no thinking necessary, suitable for a Friday-Saturday evening after working a week...
Just finished watching, in short; tricky and perplexing film. Inception meets Interstellar meets Prometheus. Not sure what I think yet. Definitely beautiful though.
Mads Mikkelsen is quickly becoming one of my absolute favourite actors. Lassgård with a good performance as well. Emotional, semi-plausable, very good movie.
