A truly great thriller, haven't seen one of those in a while! Amazing acting and the plot was just unpredictable enough to keep it interesting without getting confusing. All the creepiness reminded me of Se7en, which is always a compliment.
I thought the ending felt a lot more anti-climactic than in the book, although it has been a long time since I last read it so I might have a blurry image of it in my head. Also I don't know if someone who hasn't read the book would have realized that there was actually a long period of time between the quarter quell announcement and the actual games. The movie made it seem like there was not that much time between the 74th and the 75th hunger games when obviously there was a whole year.
I agree with the previous comment about the fact that this film did a better job at showing the brutality of the whole situation at Panem and how scary a place it really is to live in. I also loved the non-Katniss POV scenes of President Snow with his granddaughter (did she exist in the books?) and Plutarch because we didn't get to see those scenes happen in the books.
I still have to say that with a few scenes I did feel like the PG13-ness kinda ruined the moment. For example
when Johanna knocked Katniss down and cut the tracker out of her arm, the whole thing happened so off-screen that my sister who hadn't read the book was just super confused about what even happened, as was I although I knew what was supposed to have happened. And in District 11, when Katniss saw them carrying away the body of the old guy they killed... Why even include that shot if you're gonna make it look like that? I mean, that is not the face of a man who just got shot in the back of his head...
I'll probably go see it again and really concentrate on the movie, there were an unusually large amount of idiots at the theater today who kept talking and texting and I was just super mad the whole time so I'm not sure if I should trust my opinion of the movie yet.
Surprisingly good! I didn't really expect to actually like this, I just went to see it because of a few interesting actors. But the movie was actually good, and these days not a lot of comedies are. There were some parts that were obviously meant to be funny but were just kind of gross, and especially the neginning of the movie felt a little weird but I really started to enjoy the story after the actual internship started.
There are very few comedy actors that I don't thoroughly dislike and Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are both in that category. I think I wouln't even have gone to see the movie if either one of the main roles were played by someone I don't like, so that was good. A lot of the younger and less known actors were great too and damn that Max Minghella is sexy with his own accent.
I liked the soundtrack too and visually the movie was amazing, which is pretty rare with this type of films!
A great sequel, but obviously the first one was better. But that might have something to do with the fact that the first Kick-Ass was pretty much something never seen before, funny, violent, exciting, ridiculous and heartwarming all at the same time. I remember seeing it in the theater for the first time and let me tell you, never before or after have I laughed out loud so much while watching a movie.
Luckily the sequel had its own story that was different from the first film so there were stuff we hadn't seen yet. I could have watched an entire film of just the Motherfucker, he and his army were probably the best part of the movie. On average I didn't find this one as funny as the first film, though. I'm a fan of subtle humor and in the sequel the humor was more of the type that you're "supposed to" laugh at.
I kind of missed Evan Peters. It always feels weird when they have different people playing the same character in various films. I don't know. Jim Carrey didn't quite fill the hole that Mark Strong left, he's more my kind of funny than Carrey.
But yeah, I really enjoyed the film, definitely go see it if you liked the first one.
I liked it. I don't know if that's because I just felt like seeing a movie and picked this one pretty randomly so I didn't have any expectations. Anyway, I thought it was good. Amazing visually and Matt Damon looked pretty badass with no hair.
I just felt like the movie was a little short? Like the suspenseful sequences just flew by a little too quickly. It felt like they didn't take the time to concentrate on anything and just hurried to the next scene. But other than that, I did like the movie!
Just based on the trailer of the film I thought that it would be basically the same movie as The Brothers Grimm with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger, and I was pretty right. Of course The Brothers Grimm was actually really good, and I consider it one of my favorite movies. There were no actual witches on that one though (already less ridiculous), and there was actually a storyline instead of loads of unnecessary gore and swearing...
Hansel & Gretel was not good, but I count it as one of those movies you're not supposed to really like, you're just supposed to be at least mildly entertained while watching it. And I was, although I don't get how they got Jeremy Renner or Gemma Arterton to do the film, they both seem a little too "big" to have to do this kind of films. And Famke Janssen too. I don't know.
So, in conclusion: Mildly entertaining plot + Jeremy Renner + beautiful scenery and visual effects + nice soundtrack + Gemma Arterton's American accent + a lot of European actors = an ok movie. No regrets.
Ergh. I haven't read the book but if it's anything like the movie I think Stephenie Meyer should seriously stop writing romance because it always turns out tacky and uncomfortable to read and/or watch.
Unlike the Twilight saga, this one might have had a bit of potential to be a decent movie (without the dumb romancey stuff). I actually found the story pretty fascinating but whether it was the author of the book or the screenwriter, someone did such a terrible job that the whole movie was really, really bad.
I really like both Diane Kruger and Saoirse Ronan so I tried to keep an open mind and I really wanted to like the movie but sadly that didn't happen...
Clearly recognizeable Verbinski&Bruckheimer production, very similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise but not enough to make it seem like "a copy".
I really enjoyed the story and the comedic aspects of the film, as well as the amazing locations and music! The actors were great too, especially William Fichtner as a bad guy and Johnny Depp as his usual insane sidekick character.
Wow, that was a lot better than I expected. Very entertaining despite the maybe-not-so-great plot, freaking amazing visually. Really enjoyed the soundtrack, too! I wasn't familiar with any of the comic books or other films, I mainly decided to see this film because I love Lena Headey, and she was pretty awesome as I anticipated. I usually like Karl Urban a lot too but he didn't really do much acting in this one. The muscles in my faces kinda hurt after watching that pout for one and a half hours...
I don't generally like romantic comedies and this was no exception... Not that I expected it to be, either. I just really like Emily Blunt, Alison Brie and Chris Pratt, although it's a bit sad that they keep doing this kind of movies.
I've been a huge fan of JGL since probably 10 Things I Hate About You and I've always been super happy with every movie I've seen him in, but I have to say this was a little disappointing.
I think with the same basic idea this could have been a great film but somehow all the characters are left quite one dimensional and some plot points too unrealistic and unnecessary. I did like JGL though, he never disappoints. Also Michael Shannon is an amazing actor and while his portrayal of the maniac bad cop was fascinating to watch, the character seemed more like someone out of a comic book than a real person.
Yay, another great chapter to the Iron Man saga. I know the movies are silly, I know they're over the top and unrealistic but come on, people, they're based on comic books. They're allowed to be silly. And as far as Marvel stories go, Iron Man is easily my favorite. Well, X-Men is a pretty close second.
In my opinion the fact that the Iron Man franchise has been able to maintain it's quality (still talking about a comic book movie) for three films without getting too pretentious is pretty admirable. I do think The Avengers was a bit of a low point for the franchise but I'm so glad to see the the new movie was just as good as the ones before The Avengers.
Nah. Quite disappointing. If you asked me to describe the plot of the movie, I wouldn't know what the hell to tell you. Basic unoriginal action pack with nothing special about it. ): The best Die Hards were the ones with no cliche car chases or random killing-everyone-with-a-machine-gun-because-it-looks-cool scenes.
Never been a huge fan of Bradley Cooper, but I gotta say I loved him in this film. I knew I'd love Jennifer, and she did not disappoint (I guess that's the only thing she doesn't know how to do), but Bradley's performance was a surprise, the good kind. Robert De Niro might have been my favorite in this one but damn I'd give those Oscars to all of them. Besides the actors I did like the film in general too. Great characters and a great storyline, even though it did feel like they jumped to the ending a little fast. Like there should have been something between the bet and the competition but they cut it out, I don't know. Still a great film though, I know what I'm rooting for at the Oscars, especially in the acting categories!
Being European I don't know that much about Lincoln or slavery so I can't really have an opinion on how truthful this film was, but I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect to like it so much and my dad saw it before me and said he found it pretty boring so I didn't have much expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, there were no big action sequences but not every film has to have those, and I wasn't bored at any point. As I said I don't know how accurately they portrayed Lincoln in the film but I really loved the character. Great performance by Daniel Day-Lewis and I don't know, I just really liked him! Also good little comedy moments here and there, not too obvious to effect the seriousness of the film.
I probably should have guessed the last twist from the fact that it said "this year's The Sixth Sense" on the DVD. The ending was a little weird and pretty disappointing but until then it was a good movie. Not as good as The Sixth Sense, but still good.
I liked it! The story was beautiful and interesting and would have been just as good without some of those clearly-made-just-to-make-it-look-cool-in-3D effects which always ruin movies a little for me. Still enjoyed this one, though.
Loved it! It was just my kind of funny but also dramatic and I loved it more and more towards the end. Much better than I had expected! One of Keira's best performances, I think, and Steve Carell is great as always. And the soundtrack was amazing!
Really liked it! I kind of got the feeling the book had really been stretched out to fill all three films, though I have not read it, there were some scenes I think not all viewers will find interesting. Anyway, great film and a great start for a trilogy, can't wait for the next one!
